Sausage Balls Without Bisquick
A simple, homemade sausage ball recipe using pantry ingredients—no Bisquick needed. Perfect for breakfast, appetizers, or snacks.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 pound pork sausage (regular or spicy)
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup milk (optional, for moisture)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)
- ½ teaspoon onion powder (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add sausage and cheese: Crumble the sausage into the dry mixture. Add the shredded cheese. Mix well using your hands or a stand mixer.
- Adjust consistency: If the mixture is too dry, add 1-2 tablespoons of milk until the dough holds together.
- Roll into balls: Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll into balls. Place them 1 inch apart on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve warm with dipping sauces like ranch or honey mustard.
Notes
- For extra moisture, add a splash of milk if the dough feels dry.
- Use freshly grated cheese for the best texture—pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents.
- To freeze: Place uncooked sausage balls on a baking sheet, freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag. Bake straight from frozen, adding 3-5 minutes to the cooking time.
- For keto-friendly sausage balls, substitute almond flour for all-purpose flour.
